Although not well-known to the general public, a guitarist praised by many big names lives in Groningen: Rudy Lentze. In Boy from the Dessa, we take a deep dive into his extraordinary life and seventy years of pop music and world history from his perspective, and in Groningen. Featuring historical video and audio material from the Groninger Archieven. Rudy was born in Indonesia into a family with an ‘Indo’ father of German descent and a Sundanese mother, after which they soon moved to the Netherlands. In a clash of cultures, his home was unstable and his youth turbulent. In it all, he found one salvation: music. Woven with historical themes that played a role in his life in the Netherlands, such as migration and the Dutch East Indies, we take a journey through Rudy’s life and music. Afterwards, Rudy and his band Rudy & his Fascinators will perform live for approximately 30 minutes.
