Over dit evenement

IN RECURRENCE brings together three recently graduated multidisciplinary artists based in Belgium and The Netherlands. From the sudden new environment after their graduation, they present some of their most recent works in Rotterdam. They invite you to WORM’s S/ash Gallery to soak in their mixed-media installations. A common theme between the creatives is the subject of everyday, and how everydayness is perceived, traversed and captured. Our everyday surroundings- not only the buildings, crowds, and domains but also the rituals we adapt in bridging them and attempting to make sense of their aspects have a repetitive quality to them; a tautological effect that leaves both viewer and maker questioning the pattern at hand. In an environment that has become increasingly streamlined, driven by economic interests and political motivation, what are moments that can truly be ours? IN RECURRENCE searches to question the detachment from systems that appear larger than ourselves, exploring spaces, memories and perceptions until a new-found comfort is discovered. As the visitor enters the space they are invited into a quiet reflection on the effects of a postdigital urban society and the individual, lived experiences of everyday life. OPENING ::: During the opening on the 11th of November from 17:00 – 21:00 there will be a small welcome in the form of a short talk by one of the artists, as well as a live sonic performance. Central to her work is the continuously shifting relationship between people, time and memory.By exploring themes such as longing, loss, rituals, and repetition, she approaches her subjects as echoes from the past. In this way she reconstructs moments that are no longer physically present. By placing these elements in a new spatial and temporal context, she blurs the boundaries between past and…
